Finding Resume Translation Services

Finding Resume Translation ServicesMany employers look at your resume in English, but some of them don't. They will simply search the resume using a translator, so that you can be sure that what you write in English isn't going to make them upset with you. If you are a citizen of Canada, you should be able to use Canadian-translated resumes to increase your chances of getting hired. One common problem with writing resumes in English is that you are limited in the information that you can put on it. You can't just have the job title and say 'to apply for the position', because most employers use spell-check and grammar check. They may also skip over the next few lines, since they are English, and this may leave you out of the running.Another problem with resumes in English is that if you misspell something, there is a good chance that the employer won't notice it. That's because English is written from right to left, and your typo may have been written in the wrong column. Of course, t his isn't likely to happen, but it could. Therefore, it is important to look at what your resume has to say, and see if it is complete.Another problem with English-translated resumes is that some companies, especially big multinational corporations, have policies against hiring people from other countries. They consider these people to be a liability, since they aren't able to speak the language correctly. Even if you don't actually know a lot of the language, it is important to have a bit of knowledge of it to be able to find out whether you would be a good candidate. If you want to be sure that your resume will show up when someone does a search in English, then you should use the services of a translator. Many Canadian companies will hire translators to do this and will pay much less than you'd pay by yourself. Plus, since it is a professional service, you are sure that the translated resume will get you through the screening process and be considered for an interview. However, som etimes it isn't just a matter of translating your resume in English. It can be a very time-consuming process. Luckily, there are companies that will do it for you for a fraction of the price that you'd pay if you did it yourself.Since many companies hire employees who speak other languages besides English, the translation isn't really necessary. However, if you are bilingual, or need to be able to speak another language, you should be able to use the services of a translator to get the job. With the help of a translator, you can be certain that your resume will appear in English, and that it won't make you look like a liability. That can mean the difference between getting an interview and being put on the back burner for a while.

How to Upgrade Your Resume, Part 1 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

How to Upgrade Your Resume, Part 1 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Having reviewed and re-written hundreds of resumes over the last 12 years, it is likely I have seen all of the typical shortcomings of professional resumes. In this series of blog posts, I want to alert you regarding how to identify resume weaknesses and eliminate as many as possible so that this self-marketing tool is as beneficial as possible. As I mention in Chapter 6 of Fast Track Your Job Search (and Career!),          do not write your résumé in a manner that is most pleasing to you. It is important that you write your résumé in a manner that will be most pleasing to the people who will be reading your résumé. A good place to start  is to consider  what I call the “15 second skim test”. When a resume is submitted for a published job, reviewers can expect to be faced with 200 or more submissions. This drives reviewers to set a fast pace that typically gives each resume 10-15 seconds on their first pass, after which they decide if yours should be trashed or set aside for further analysis. For this reason, it is important that you compose your resume in a manner that maximizes your odds of passing this first phase of review. Here are some questions that will alert you to information that most reviewers are seeking during their first 20 seconds, thus helping you identify shortcomings and opportunities for improvement. When a recruiter or hiring manager has roughly 20 seconds to review your current resume, Does the layout allow them to easily define your work history (job titles and years of experience) in a general sense? Does the layout allow them to easily define your key educational accomplishments such as the college degrees you have earned? Do the other contents that are most likely to be identified tend to paint a positive picture of you as a person with relevant accomplishments that would indicate your ability to handle the job for which you are being considered? Some functional tools available for you to upgrade your resume and better convey these three messages are: Font â€" I don’t recommend varying fonts within the body of your resume. Font size â€" Two font sizes, such as Times New Roman 11 point and 12 point, can help emphasize certain items. Other such tools available to you include bolding, italics, underlines, indentations and justifications, horizontal tabs, line spacing, and capitalization. Here are some suggestions for using these tools to upgrade your resume and better succeed when it needs to pass the “15 second skim test”: Use bolding, increased font size, capitalization, and underlining as you desire to create sectional headers that aid the reader in jumping from section to section in order to find the information they seek. Bold, and consider italicizing, all your job titles and left-justify them so they are easy to find. Right-justify your dates of employment for each title with each company. If you have more than five years of post-undergraduate professional experience, place your educational credentials after your work experience and bold the degree descriptions such as “M.B.A. (Finance)”. Insure that some of your key quantified results are bolded so that they jump out from the other text. If you will review your resume and use my suggestions to make your resume more reader friendly, you will increase your odds of making it past the first round of screening when you are faced with significant competition. Future posts will examine additional shortcomings and offer ideas for overcoming them. Stay tuned!

Trumps election tells us that were all a bunch of liars

Trumps election tells us that were all a bunch of liars Last night my husband and I woke up in the middle of the night to talk politics. We didnt talk about how surprised we were. We went through the list of people we know who voted for Trump but wouldnt admit it. We know a lot of them because we dont live in California or New York. We live in The Rest of The Country. If you live on the coasts you probably dont understand what its like to be surrounded by Trump voters, so Ill tell you. First, theres no discussion of politics except to say platitudes that everyone accepts as true. Because outside of the coasts its not polite to start disagreements. So a political discussion goes like this: Everything fell apart with NAFTA. Uh huh. Thats for sure. Hillarys a liar. Yep. Shes been lying forever. That video of Trump in the bus was so sad. It was so sad. Conversation among people who are not New Yorkers is not really give and take, so much as its call and response. No one tells you they are voting for Trump. Instead, their kids tell you. As typical homeschoolers, my kids know no typical limits for intellectual discussion. So they talk politics with other kids, and most kids my kids talk to say they support Trump. And let me tell you, its not because they are reading CNN.com voraciously. Its because their parents support Trump. My niece, also living in a state that does not have an ocean front, had a mock election in her high school. We are not talking impoverished and uneducated here.  This is a high school with a ski team. And it wasnt just that Trump won the mock election that made my niece leave school early. It was that her classmates were chanting, Build that wall! Build that wall! What I want you to know is that Trump voters dont tell you they are Trump voters. It shouldnt surprise you because the only people who have a voice in the media are in New York and California. And look, Im not telling you this as a Trump voter. Im telling you this a member of the media. Does it shock you to hear that 80% of the writers for high-end magazines come from Park Slope or Montclair? I made that number up, but I dare you to spend a day reading the bylines. You will be completely shocked by how many writers live in these towns. The reason is that being a writer is a glamorous job that doesnt pay enough to support a family, so the only people  who can do it have spouse  making a ton of money. And those writers  live in Park Slope (Brooklyn) or Montclair (New Jersey). So if you want to be a member of the media, you have to talk like them. Act like them. Or you are a loser in a small-town and not really counted as media. Im telling you this to let you know how out of touch the media is with America. Mainstream  America doesnt go to spinning classes. They go to casinos. We lie to ourselves when we think we know how the US thinks and votes. We lie to ourselves when we think there is anything in the media reflecting The Rest Of The Country. Rural people lie to each other when they pretend they are having real conversations. And city people lie when they pretend they can represent the US in the media. But there are more lies. The Democratic Party propped up Hillary as if she was the peoples choice. She wasnt. Even laudatory writing about Hillary was lukewarm. Poll after poll showed that Bernie Sanders could beat Trump and that Hillary would have a harder time beating Trump. And I dont know if Russia hacked the DNC or Comey is working for the RNC or what, but its clear that the Democrat Party didnt plan for a fair primary. The Democrat voters dont like Hillary. Why is this a shock? We knew this during the primary. Why are we pretending that the DNC didnt throw this election away? American voters want change, and people do not perceive Hillary as change. We dont need polls to know this. And now, a word from South Park. I watch South Park with my son every night, so you can imagine that we have ended up watching many episodes more than once. Which means we are excited when a new episode comes out. And a recent  South Park episode pointed out that Republicans didnt throw a fit when Trump repeatedly said slurs against the Hispanic population in the US or against the Muslim population at large. Republicans didnt distance themselves from Trump until he talked in lewd ways about women. Which tells us that the Republicans  think its fine to be racist. We live in a racist country. We live in a country of arrogant city people. We live in a country with corrupt parties. And we have open elections but we dont have open discourse. I think about Nazi Germany all the time. What would I have done? Now I know. I would have lied to myself just like everyone else lied to themselves. Thats how democracies crumble: under the lies we tell ourselves. I think you read this blog because I spend a lot of time calling out people for lies. Here are some things Ive said that people hate me for saying: Dont report sexual harassment. Dont hire for diversity. Marry for money. You put your kids in school because you are cowardly. You are not going to earn any more money than you earn now. Your graduate degree is worthless. This is not controversial stuff. I mean, in terms of research and data its not controversial. But we dont let people say those things because they offend our sensibilities. People feel compelled to tell me Im hurting someone their wife, their daughter, their career, their ego, whatever because Im telling the truth. Thats why we are all shocked that Trump is elected. Because we are so comfortable hiding from the truth. Do you want to know how to have a safe, secure work life and a personal life that is stable and fulfilling? Stop lying to yourself. Put your outrage aside and open your eyes to reality. Learn  to understand why people do what they do.  Just because the world is not how you think it SHOULD be doesnt mean you cant see it for what it actually is. Redirect your election incredulity. Try to find your part in it. Try to find where you lie to yourself. Try to be more honest about your own life. The best way to fight a failing democracy is to try radical honesty. With everyone.

New Ways to Avoid Layoffs, Today at 4pm EST SIRIUS 112/XM 157 Layoffs actually cost companies more than they save.Thats according to Work Life Fit expert Cali Williams Yost, my guest today on Making a Living with Maggie (SIRIUS 112/XM 157 4pm EST). To tune in using a free trial of SIRIUS, click here.Last week, during her interview on Public Radio Internationals The Takeaway, Cali highlighted that managers think firing someone who makes $50,000 a year saves $50,00a year, but the research shows its costing them between $75,000 and $125,000. Cali advises companies instead to use flexibility, such as reduced schedules/salaries, adding unpaid vacation days, furloughs/sabbaticals, etc., as a better approach to reducing labor expenses because it preserves the profit-generating productivity and engagement critical for recovery.Unfortunately many companies are turning to layoffs to save costs at this time. If you or someone you know has been let go from a job recently, there are steps you can take to recover.
